Calendula in Skin Care: Why This Flower Keeps Showing Up in Our Formulas
From lip balm to Face Cream and Body Cream, calendula keeps finding its way into BennyBee. Discover how we use this botanical differently across our formulas.

If you've spent some time looking through BennyBee products, you may have noticed one flower appearing more than once.
Calendula.
You'll find it in our Face Cream, Body Cream and Calendula Infused Lip Balm.
That's intentional.
Rather than constantly chasing new ingredients, we like finding ingredients that fit what we're trying to make and exploring how they can work across different formulas.
Calendula has become one of those ingredients for us.
What Is Calendula?
Calendula, commonly known as pot marigold, is a flowering plant that has a long history of use in traditional skin preparations.
Its bright orange and yellow flowers are probably the most recognizable part of the plant.
For BennyBee, the interesting part is how we can incorporate those flowers into our formulas through oil infusion.
Instead of simply adding dried flowers to a finished product, we infuse calendula into a carrier oil first.
That infused oil then becomes an ingredient in the final formula.
Why We Infuse Calendula Into Oil
An oil infusion starts with two things: a botanical and a carrier oil.
The dried calendula flowers spend time in the oil, creating an infused oil that can then be incorporated into products such as balms and creams.
We like this approach because the infusion becomes part of the actual formulation.
And depending on the product, we can choose a carrier oil that makes sense for what we're creating.
That is exactly what we do across BennyBee.
Calendula in Our Lip Balm
Our Calendula Infused Lip Balm uses calendula-infused olive oil.
Olive oil provides emollient properties that help soften and condition the lips, while the calendula infusion gives this balm its botanical identity.
We also keep this balm unscented.
There is no need to cover every botanical product with a fragrance or flavor. Sometimes we want the formula itself to be the focus.
The result is one of our more straightforward botanical lip-care options.
Calendula in Our Body Cream
For the Body Cream, we take a different approach.
Here, calendula is infused into apricot kernel oil.
Apricot kernel oil has a lighter character than the olive oil used in our Calendula Lip Balm and works beautifully as part of an emulsified body moisturizer.
That infused oil is combined with water, glycerin and shea butter to create the richer moisturizing experience we wanted from the Body Cream.
Same flower.
Different carrier oil.
Completely different product.
Calendula in Our Face Cream
Calendula appears again in our Face Cream, but this time it isn't working alone.
The formula brings together calendula-infused apricot kernel oil and chamomile-infused apricot kernel oil, along with Manuka honey, glycerin and shea butter.
We wanted the Face Cream to have its own botanical identity rather than simply being a smaller jar of our Body Cream.
Pairing calendula with chamomile became part of that distinction.
Why Not Just Add Calendula to Everything?
Because an ingredient should have a reason to be there.
We don't want every BennyBee product to contain the same ingredients simply so we can tell a consistent marketing story.
Some formulas call for calendula.
Others don't.
Our Cocoa Lip Balm, for example, is built around cocoa butter. Our Minimal Lip Balm follows a much simpler ingredient philosophy. Other balms have their own purpose and character.
That's important to us.
A recognizable ingredient is useful. A thoughtful formula is more important.
One Botanical, Different Experiences
This is what makes calendula particularly interesting to us.
In one BennyBee product, it's part of an unscented lip balm.
In another, it's incorporated into a rich body moisturizer.
And in our Face Cream, it sits alongside chamomile and Manuka honey in a formula designed specifically for facial moisturizing.
We aren't trying to make those products feel the same.
We're taking an ingredient we like and using it differently depending on what we're making.
Becoming Part of BennyBee
Shea butter will always be an important part of BennyBee.
But as we've developed more products, calendula has quietly become another ingredient that feels at home here.
Maybe that's why you keep seeing those little yellow and orange flowers around our products.
They're not just decoration.
Calendula has become part of what we make.
Purposeful everyday care starts with shea-centered lip and skin care.
